I just got swap magic 3.6 for my v14 and it worked well until I loaded burnt Virtua Fighter 2 CD. I first put swap magic CD and swapped it with the VF2 CD, then I got "insert bigger toc disc" error. so i restarted ps2 with swap magic cd in it, and loaded GTA: Vice City DVD (pressed) to refresh the TOC, but now it says "not a valid ps2 disc". however, if i just press x, the game loads fine but backups no longer work!!! what should i do now?

to make things clear... this is what happens now if i try to load the backup games.

load swap magic disc
i press the eject button to swap, i get "insert bigger toc disc"
1.when i put original disc (Vice City), it says Not a valid PS2 disc, but the game loads if i just ignore the message and proceed with x button
2.when i put backup disc, it says not a valid PS2 disc and the game does not load.

Also, you cant refresh the toc with a dvd when you want to load a cd anyways. How big is your virtua fighter game?

I have the same problem as well. When I remove the Swap Magic Disc, a message appears saying Need Bigger TOC Disc and when I put my back-up Max Payne 2, it says invalid PS2 disc and I push X to load and it doesn't do anything. I then put my original Gran Turismo 4 game and it loaded it. It never used to do it before.

I have the same problem as above, and just got my swap magic. :(. My backups aren't working, but when I put in my originals, it is. I've never even got a chance to play any backups yet. :(.

Swap Magic 3.8, the Coder version has TOC refresh mechanism. Maybe thats what you guys need. Me, i haven't been able to use swap magic yet. so I never did that. But I have 3.8.

it's actually because one of your tools is loose.

the ones that trick the playstation into thinking the disc lid is closed..

all you have to do is open ur ps2, and tape down the little button(the one that is usually pressed down by closing ur ps2 lid) this is only for a slimline ps2 by the way, i dont have a fatass one so i dunno how to do it to the cartman version sorry :P

or it could be teh other switch, open ur disc fliptop lid, and at the bottom right hand corner of the inside there, you will see a little hole, inside this little hole (maybe 2X4mm? or smaller?) u will se another little switch...get a little bit of tissue paper, make a tiny ltitle ball, and jam it in there...

problem solved.

p.s. this IS your problem, trust me.

I just wanna PARTY!~

Sounds like your PS2 knows you have the lid open... what other Tools are you using in your PS2 besides the SwapMagic Discs?

Toc = Table of Contents

Basicly it's the directory of what's on the disk.

Just since someone asked. Solution to your problem is posted above.

I made mine out of an old credit card (actually someone elses costco card) and it works great. The cardboard test ones I made, just couldn't hold up in my working ps2. They worked great in my broken ps2 though.

Also, usually demo disks have the best TOC. Some people say a make sure it's a big disk, but size doesn't have anything to do with the TOC, the number of files in it does.

I don't use swap magic, but I do use cogswap & cdloader, and I find 1 program won't like disk, but the other will. Like the everquest online game doesn't get recgonised as a valid ps2 disk by cdloader, but works fine with cogswap.

Thanks for all your help nyder!
I also have another question. What type of disc do or should i use for my backup games or burnt games? I put in a larger TOC disc like it says and is reads that ok and then it says to put in your own disc and it says "Not a valid PS2 disc" is there anyway i can fix this or a type of disc i should use?

If it's telling you to Insert Bigger Toc Disc than your PS2 knows the Tray or Cover is open .. So every time you go to swap discs it knows... you need another mod besides the swapmagic discs to achieve this

For things not saying "Valid PS2" disk, i don't know. Maybe it's how the disk was made or something, just use another disk.
I know CDloader gives me that on disks cogswap has no problems with and vice-versa.

Personally i've had the best results with demo disks, like from the official playstation magazine.
But i'm cheap, I didn't buy swap magic, so i've never used it. Mainly since I had 2 ARmax duo evo's that i could use to setup the independance exploit on a memory card.
From that I just have it load up cdloader, or cogswap (or hdl, hda, usbadvance, etc...) I think thats faster then having it load up swap magic, but maybe not.

It also possible your lasers going a little, so some games that were working before might start having trouble.
I've had games not load up every now or then, or stall out while loading. Sometimes I thought maybe it was because my swap disk toc was just a little short, so i'd switch swap disks the next time.

It's possble that some games work better with certain disks as their swaps.

Ok thanks again nyder!
I think i night try a cogswap if i can find one somewhere. Ive tried different types of disc's but still got "not a valid PS2 disc."

I can also load games through a USB with this version coder but the game has to be in one big file not lots of small files. Have any idea's how i could do this?

When you said you used just those demo disc's how did u mean or what did you use them for? And is there anyway i could erase the demo disc? Sorry about all the questions.

don't worry about the questions, i had a whole bunch when i was figuring it out.
What I mean by demo disk is for the part where you need to insert a original (pressed) ps2 disk. I was saying demo disks because they are cheap and ususally have a whole bunch of stuff on them which hopefully will not only make it a big dvd (4+gigs) but also have a large TOC because it has a whole bunch of files on it.
Not to mention you can pick up PS2 games for less then $5 at Gamestop and other places.
I picked up about 6 older Offical Playstation Magazine for a few bucks each from a used books store (these disks were still in them, of course!).

I've found many ps2 files on the net. I just read thru the different threads, checking out all the links on the way. At first I was getting frustrated, but after awhile, I found a few sites that host a whole bunch of different files.

I got no problem sending you the files you need, though I will probably upload them somewhere and give you the link.

Yes, you can load stuff off of usb.

What tools do you have to work with? Tell you what, send me a private message, since we are taking this thread offtopic. Maybe we can IM or something.
