I have just bought a PS2, a slim version of it, i mean its slim(woow), and i will mod it so i can play the imported/copied games. Anyways what do i do to mod it, cause a harddrive wont fit in it (too small), so do i buy a mod chip or a flip card or something, BTW i heard you need to buy a laser fix for it, what do i need a laser fix for anyways, and what other stuff do i need to know about a Slim PS2. Im new at this so bear with me and dont be like (am i for real). HEHE. Well Merry Christmas to you all and a fun New Years.

is there any modchip that i can install that doesnt require any soldering, im good with a soldering iron but who knows what will happen, itll be d first time screwing around with a PS2 so im kind of scared, but if it will be necessary to open it and solder d modchip I will do it no matter what. BTW what is easier a modchip or Swap Magic. i just dont want the hassle of switching cd's to play the copied games when it comes to Swap Magic. I just want to burn the game, insert it and im ready to play. I have enough problems to deal with. Tell me what u think

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193 40. Q. I have a middle school diploma, a bottle of Jack Daniels, and a soldering iron, should I solder my modchip myself?
A. C'mon. What do you think? Absolutely, unequivocally, definitely, without question, NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Unless you are an experienced solderer, don't go near your motherboard with a 10 foot pole. There's no quicker way to ruin a perfectly good PS2, than with a shot of JD and a soldering iron. Pay a Pro. It'll save you money down the road. http://www.teammodders.com is a good place to start.
so I dont think soldering by yourself is a good idea. but there do have a mathod for non soldering chip. but seems not good.

70012 is v12, with USB ports, so I think it can use USB HDD with usbadvance, see here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/189177
if you dont want to buy magic switch, you may find how to DIY here: save you about $8. buy you will have to have SM ot MC exploit(which is free)

@gpsfan, sorry but the MC EXPLOIT _NO_LONGER_ works with any PSTwo v12 or higher. Only FAT PS2s; $ony re-engineered the PSTwo slimline & the Independence exploit doesn't work!
@mmalyszko, the DMS4 Lite has a no solder version. You can run most games with it. please do not double post, you will get an answer to your questions. If you want to run USB Advance from a version that you d/l, read this: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/189177/1544618-399529 Make sure you READ the ENTIRE post from top to bottom before asking questions. It works on a v12 slim, just make sure you follow step by step. Good luck.

what??!! why why why!!! so disapointed, so the best way for us is sm 3.6 + usbadvance, if modchip is not a choice.

It sucks they killed the Independence exploit...but no need to worry! A modchip like DMS4 or Matrix Infinity will do u right. I use the SMv3.6, an external HDD + enclosure, and the USB Advance from that thread, and it works on my SCPH-70012 v12. Just follow the steps, easy. Yeah, you can get the subzero laser fix because v12 slimline lasers overheat (thanks $ony :( & it prevents that. Do a search, you'll find what u need.

mmalyszko, I do not know what the a means. It is a version 12 (mine is also -70012), so do not concern yourself with it. Google search on "subzero fix" or "comsoft fix" like here: http://www.chiptek.net/shop/catalog/comsoft-fix-v4-v12-v13-ps2-p-... A laser fix will cost you extra, yes. I do not work for the website you mentioned, so I don't know if they will do work for FREE. I doubt it... Would you?
