DVD-RW Erase question

I bought a generic 25 pack of 2x DVD-R really cheap ($28 and some change including shipping). So far, 3 successful burns and one
coaster. Not bad considering the price.

My question is. If I use DVD-RW (instead) and the same thing happens, I can re-format and try again.
Does the disc reformat a DVD-RW to 4.7 (4.37 usable) or is their a loss of total capacity with each erasure? I have noticed that is the
case with CD-RW. Each time I erase, I lose a
little capacity but it adds up over time. I wonder if that is the case with DVD-RW as well.
