Sanyo DRW-500 how to finalize

I am trying to back up some old VHS using a Sanyo DRW-500 recorder. The unit records fine. My problem is the disks will not play in any other players or on my pc. I was told I may need to finalize the disks. I am using +R disks how would I finalize these.

There should be a menu where you select finalize- after the disc is complete and you are done editing it. It may also say, Make Compatable.
