This is an exact copy of a bug report I sent to Kazaa. Please try and help me.
[I keep a very healthy computer and typically have little trouble with memory and system resources. However, there is a problem with Kazaa that is causing my system to suddenly lose massive amounts of resources. The problem only occurs when I am in the "My Kazaa" section and only after I have edited a file (for it's rating, author, etc.). I will lose approximately 1-5% system resources for each file I edit. The problem compounds very quickly until, after editing perhaps 20 files, I am down to 0% system resources. At this point, I close Kazaa and, miraculously, go back up to 88% system resources (for your information, I begin the process with 91% free system resources). Then, I re-open kazaa and the process repeats itself.
Kazaa is the only program that I know to do this. When editing files in other progams like RealPlayer and Musicmatch Jukebox, I actually experience no change in system resources.
I have my files set up as follows. All my media files are located in a folder I created on my D: drive. The folder contains no partitions; all files sit directly within it. From this folder, I have added all .mp3 files to my musicmatch library and all video files to my realplayer library. Once these files are added, I edit them accordingly within each respective media program. I usually edit them differently than in each media program than I do in kazaa.
Things I've tried so far:
1) Setting Kazaa not to function as a supernode, as I heard this can take up to 10% resources. No noticable change. Problem persists.
2) Restricting the amount of simultaneous downloads. No noticable change. Problem persists.
3) Disconnecting from the server when I edit files. No noticable change. Problem persists.
4) Restarting the computer. No noticable change. Problem persists.
5) Computer Maintenance (Scandisk, Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter) No noticable change. Problem Persists.
6) Virus scanning with Norton Antivirus (with latest virus updates). No viruses found. Problem persists.
My Computer Stats:
Processor: Pentium III 866 Mhz
Ram: 384.0 Mb SDRAM? Not the newer type of RAM (which I believe is called RDRAM)
Operating System: Windows ME, with all updates critical updates.
I have had many of the previous versions of Kazaa (can't remember the first version I had). I am not sure if I would have had this problem in the past because, quite honestly, I have not edited my files through kazaa until this point.
I hope this will help you to assist me in figuring out exactly what is going on with your program. That is, supposing that you do respond to these reports, which I was not able to ascertain from the bug report page. Maybe I just missed it.]
LOL, turns out that they don't tell you the bug report won't be responded to until after you send it. Oh well, I didn't think they'd respond anyway. That's why I'm here asking for your help. Please, offer any suggestions you may have.
Thank you in advance.

Windows ME was forged by lucifer himself! lol. While other things strictly related to Kazaa may be causing this, you have to understand the nature of Kazaa and of ME. Windows ME is THE most unstable OS out there right now, this is why it didn;t last very long before something else came out...in fact, John Q consumer may not even remember there was an ME, they would tell you "Uh well, 95, 98, something, 2000, XP". It is incredibly unstable and a horrible manager of resources, they haven't been able to correct this with updates, since most of those cover security issues. Also, kazaa makes use of all codecs and media options already in place on your machine, meaning that it essentially runs Windows Media Player everytime you open it. If you're missing a codec for WMP, kazaa won't beable to play that file. Likewise, if you have a codec for WMP it will (WMP is just an example). Kazaa pulls off of many resources and programs on your machine, my suggestion is upgrading your OS...and soon too, otherwise find a different application, such as Kazaa Lite K++.

98 or 98 SE? there is a difference in how they perform. Take a look at what you have running in your system tray, if you have an absurd number of icons down there, you may want to look into keeping some of them closed.
