Can anyone recommend some containers/cases for DVD-Rs with preserving DVD longevity in mind? What's good, what's bad? I'm just now realizing that DVD-Rs + bad cases + sharpies don't mix after a long time, and now I'm really hoping to re-do my DVD-R collection with DVD-safe markers, a case suitable for longterm storage in a regular environment (home, dorm room, etc.), and so on.

Also, every company seems to think their DVD-Rs are the longest lasting. But what manufacturer *really* makes the longest lasting DVD-Rs?

Thanks

I just use cd/dvd cases that hold 100 or more. I keep them straight up, out of the sunlight and in a dry place. Shapries are fine on dvd's. What happened to yours? It may be more media related.
The longest lasting would be Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Well I just came home from college and tried some of my DVD-R and CD-Rs from 1+ years ago, with sharpies and plastic cases. I'm noticing some movies that were one flawless are now sorta jumpy on some DVD players and stuff.

I found this website which goes into extensive detail about why sharpies are bad, among tons of other stuff, with scientific explanations and stuff on what detracts from DVD longevity and such. I have CD-Rs from like 5 years ago, took care of them decently, and they're simply just...dying with no explanation. So I'm really hoping to get the best tips and info on how to take care of burnable media the best.

Wow that link sure has a lot of good info from what I glanced at! Txs.
I too have cd's over 5 year that still play great but I also used quality media and didn't burn them at max speed. As for dvd's I have ones over 2 years old that still play great stored in a cd/dvd case. Again quality media and lower burn speed.
My first tip would be to use the media I mentioned. 2nd keep the burn speed at 1/2 of what your drive will do as long as the media supports it. Example: 16x drive I burn 8x media at 8x - 8x drive same media burn at 4x. Many others here stay at 4x no matter what- but burning at max is not recommended.
I still don't think sharpies are bad as long as you write in on the right side:)
