I just got a Sony Dual Layer DVD Burner for Christmas. I am wondering do I have to buy DL disc or can I buy regular +/- R disc. Another question is that my burner came w/ Nero 6.... is that software going to be all I need to burn movies... I think I may have a problem w/ copy protected movies...so I have downloaded DVDFabDecrypter, is that a good software or is there a better freeware out there. Another question is I am trying to use Nero Recode and I can't seem to figure it out plz help w/ that too! I kno this is a lot, but you help would be greatly appreciated.... thanks!

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Here is a guide for using DVDFab decrypter. If you follow it step by step you will have excellent backups.
You can burn DL movies onto a DVD5 disc with no problem, I do it all the time. Use the guides and they will show you how to do it.

There is also a guide in my signature for DVDdecrypter and DVDShrink. Make sure that you get DVDShrink, it's excellent.
Cheers.

Nero is good - it's one of my fav's. Plus Shrink will recognize it and use it to burn once installed (well you may have to change a setting in preferences) The difference between shrink, decrypter and Nero is - Nero can't copy discs w/ copy protection unless you've already removed it.
Here's a guide and how to use Decrypter and Nero Recode:

It could be a few things - the brand of discs you used - which ones did you use? Which format - or +. Does your Xbox accept both or only one? I only have a playstation and it can be picky with media though it does play both formats. How fast did you burn? I wouldn't recommend max - it's also another thing I noticed in the ps - high burn speeds it didn't like even though they played well in a standalone.
Use quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Well I got Verbatim because of the forums I have read, I saw that a lot of ppl used Verbatim so that's what i got. I got DVD+R because that is what the man in the store told me to get... i think that it maybe that I burned at max... I will try at a slower speed...because it did work in the DVD Player just not my Xbox....thank i'll try that and see what happens.

Verbatim is good stuff. Try slowing the burn speed down to 4x.

Your best bet then is to booktype a +r disc. This fools your reader into thinking the disc is a dvd-rom which is the most accepted format. Your sony is probably a rebadged LiteOn.
Check out this link for help w/ Nero and Decrypter:

Awsome!... Thank You so much... It worked! I am playing the movie in my Xbox right now. I don't think i have a rebadged Lite-On, i really don't even know what that is, but I know when i did the change for the book type I couldn't use Lite-On I used BenQ (whatever that is). But it doesn't matter it worked.. Thank You for working with me....

@RunnerBoi
Not a prob! I'm glad we got it working in the xbox for you!
Rebadged just means the oem (original equipment manufacture) is Lite On and not Sony. Sony has Liteon make alot of their drives. BenQ drives support booktyping - most liteon's do but you need a utility. If you want to try and booktype that one - just post back the model # and we'll look into.

Okay your sony's oem is BenQ not a Liteon as I had thought. So if this is your only burner you're all set - once set in decrypter or Nero it will automatically booktype your +r media. Sorry for the confusion on your drive!
