I plan on getting swap magic but past this I am really stuck on what even works for the v12 and v14. I've read alot of stuff but everything seems to say something different so I'm going to ask everyone's opinion directly.

I've heard the magicswitch works for the v14 but the slide tool and fliptop don't? From what I've seen, the magic switch requires you to leave your ps2 lid open. I'm worried about what this could do to the laser or components. I don't like leaving the ps2 open like that. So is it the only option or is their another one that works? What's your experiences or knowledge on this topic? Thanks guys, ahead of time.

I'm another person with this problem... I just bought a new V14 PS2 and I'm not 100% clear on what is compatible for it... this is what I've gathered...

Changes from V12 to V14 make it required for the new V14 system to be taken apart.

Is that correct? Is there a way to use switches in the V14 without taking apart the system? If so, what? I haven't seen a simple answer.

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm

7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag...
Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/
or tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).

my tape and more tape

85. Q. I just bought a v.14 or 15 Slim PS2 and I'm interested in a modchip, what chips work with the v.14 and 15 PS2?
A. v.14: Matrix Infinity, DMS 4, Crystal Chip.
v.15: Matrix Infinity, DMS 4, Crystal Chip (only partially compatible with v.15 presently).

From KC36330, a professional modder and member of AD:

If your modder didn't install a laser fix then most likely your laser is now on its way out. All V12-V14 PS2's require the laser fix, especially modded consoles. Even a new unmodded slimline PS2 can burn the laser out in as little as a few hours of game play.

Well that's straight from a pro modder, so go ahead get a laser fix if you have a slim. No point in taking a chance.

It says so right on this page.

I'm not going to question a pro modder on that subject. If you have a slim you should get a laser fix. That's what I've heard from people that know more than I on the subject. The ultimate decision lies with you.
