Well I tried my first attempt at a DL burn. Received a "burn process fail"

Details:
I had already ripped my "In Living Color" Season 1 Disk 1 to my hard drive using CloneDVD2.

I am using Nero Burning ROM to record to my Plextor PX-716uf, 1.09 firmware. I set up the "Automatic" book-type option under my recorder settings in Nero, dragged the Video_TS files over and let it burn at 2.4x setting.

I am using Ridata DVD+RDL 2.4x media.

Below is the Nero log. Can someone provide some assistance on what might have gone wrong? Or am I looking at just some bad media here? Don't want to end up with more "coasters".

Thanks in advance.

Looks to be a read error rather than a write error. Which volume (disk) had the ripped file?

Nero 6 doesn't always play well with DL media for whatever reason.

Try using DVD Decrypter for both ripping and burning. It seems to work best for DL media for me.

Place DVD Decrypter in Mode -> ISO Read and rip the iso to your hard drive.
Place DVD Decrypter in Mode -> ISO Write, select the MDS file associated with the ripped iso file, and burn.

Also make sure the drive your ripping the file to is defragged.

Your firmeware is up to date so you got that going for you. :)

Ok. I can try DVD Encryptor. I haven't been using it since I got CloneDVD2. Does DVD Encryptor copy files, or is it only ISO? If it's only ISO, then I need to rerip the disk. I could have a bad rip to begin with, even though CloneDVD2 didn't show any errors upon completion.

I'll also try the disk defrag.

If Nero doesn't play nice with DL, is there any other burn programs (w/ booktype option) I can use to copy the files and not need to ISO write? Don't want to rerip all my dual layer disks I transfered on my hard drive if I don't have to.

Appreciate the help.

DVD Decrypter will rip into either a folder of files or an iso image file. It will only burn an iso file however. I prefer the ISO since Decrypter will give the same layer break as the original. Once you start playing around with files, the bets are off for layer breaks generated automatically. I think ImgBurn also burns only iso files as well. Some have reported good results with Nero 7. I haven't used it so I can't speak to its quality myself. Decrypter will booktype as long as the firmware is set to do so. In Deccrypter, select Tools -> Drive -> Change Book Type..., click on Plextor or the drive's OEM, and check the booktype setting for the drive and change as necessary.

Laddyboy,

I had some corrupted source files in the Video_TS folder. I reripped the DVD as an ISO, using DVD Decrypter & then burned it, book typed to DVD-ROM, to my drive successfully.

Fortunately I was able to use the same DL disk, since the burn didn't start. So far I've done about 6 DL burns with the Ritek media, and it's working great thus far. The Ridata media seem good enough till my order of Verbatim DL's get here.

Thanks for the advise.

@Gattaca58

Here is a fantastic guide by bbmayo for copying a DL.
