Chris, you make it sound so easy. Can you give us newbies a step by step in this process. Also what type/brand of DVD disks do we need to copy onto?

<<if you have a standalone dvd recorder, do VHS to DVD, How is this done?

then ripp it onto your pc for editing and converting to other formats duhhhh..again step by step please.>>

Sorry but there are alot of us newbies out here hoping people like yourself would not mind sharing your knowledge. THANKS

haha no worries, i'm not a pro or anything, everything i know is from coming here! (well 99%, and 1% messing around with stuff)

Well, if you have a dvd recorder (not a dvd writer on your pc but an actual dvd recorder sat under your tv)

Most of them will have a scart input or a set of composite inputs (the set of red, white and yellow sockets)

Your video player will have outputs like this that you would normal use to connect to the TV, so plug your video player 'output' into your dvd recorder 'input' and do it as if you were recording television.

Press play on the video, and record on the dvd recorder and that's it!

I've done some of my old videos like this such as the goonies!

once you have it on a DVD (use re-writables so you can use them again later) pop it it your PC DVD drive and use a program like DVD Shrink to 'ripp' it onto your pc.

From there you can compress it, and even put 2 movies on a single dvd.
there are seperate therads for DVD Shrink and there is a good step by step guide on here somewhere to get you started.

If you have a dvd burner then just use shrink again to make your final discs or if you only have a cd burner you can use other programs to convert the dvd files to video-cd for burning onto cd's (again search for the guides on this)

i record a lot of tv stuff onto dvd then put it on my pc for taking out the ads, and puttting menus on etc, if your not going to do anything with the video then i suppose you might as well skip out the whole pc part!
