Blocky white squares and poor picture quality!!

I have recently formatted and can't get playback back to the way it could be. I have installed Tsunami filter 3.9.9 and WMP ver. 9. When I playback any avi movie the picture is poor quality. Back ground colours are very patchy and I am seeing occasional blockiness in the film sometimes white squares will appear. I am running Win98SE, Creative geforce2 ti, Realmagic xcard, SB audigy 2, 512 RAM...Tried many diff. media players...DIVX 5.0.3, latest realone player and they are all the same. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated as it is really bugging me and I am running out of ideas!! Cheers
