My 80gb drive is full and need to put in larger drive, but don't want to backup the entire drive first cuz I don't have that much space on my PC to do that! Can I hook both up to PC and use Ghost, drivecopy or trueimage to make an exact copy and then use Pmagic to expand F & G directories....If all my games are on F now, I understand that on drives larger than 120, G: is used?

Can someone plz help ....thanx

I don't know if this helps, but I will tell you what I did.

I recently modded a second xbox, because I wanted to take one on the road with me. I didn't want to go through all of the copying back and forth to my PC, so I went into my disk tools that were built into my Xenium Ice and just copied the partitions over, after I formatted the new drive.

With the Xbox turned off, I unplugged the DVD drive in my xbox and then plugged that end of the IDE cable into the new HDD. I then moved the jumper on the back of the old drive to the MASTER setting and the jumper on the back of the new drive to the SLAVE setting. I used a power splitter (found at any place that sells PC parts) to power both HDDs. I accessed my chip by hitting eject, both drives powered up, and I just told it to format my new drive and copy the partitions.

I was using two 250GB Maxtors with the 16MB cash, but it still took a while. I had a lot of data on these drives, and I don't think the processor on the chip was very quicklike. Heck, it said it was formatting my new partition for almost 26 hours, and then all of a sudden, I had an exact duplicate.

I do not know if Boxplorer will recognize both drives, but it is worth a try and would probably be a heck of a lot faster.

Course... you can always burn the games to disks.

Thanx! Thats what I was wondering...if I should connect both drives to console and do this with tools that came w/ dashboard(s) or do it with PC. Since xbox uses different file system, then it makes sence to format and then copy using xbox. Those tools that come with the box are not the easiest to navigate :-) like boxplorer! I have several of those y-splitters and already put in one of the new 80-conductor IDE cables (not that that will help all that much) so will go ahead and try it. It's amazing that you were the only one to reply....can't believe that other's have not run into this problem with their drive getting filled up and how they went about upgrading to a larger drive and what they found to be the easiest method. Guess I should have known (no prob. with PC but the xbox with its FATX file system and the limited tools avail. its a different breed).

If using large drive, do you have all your games on the G: partition?

Thanx again for replying!

I actually have them split between the two partitions. I have all of my emulators and roms on the F drive, as well as my apps and videos. I also have some 20 games or so on the F partition.

I use my G drive for all the rest of my Xbox games -- some odd 50 of them.

I don't know what the defaults are for the other partitions, but I think my F drive is 120 and the G is 120. I have heard the Xenium will allow you to run an EXTENDED F partition, but I am not sure if EvolutionX will have problems with it.

I have not modified my ini file (I may never, because it never bothered me) to see the games in the G drive when running EvolutionX. I load them with DVD2Xbox or Complex Tools.

Here is another tidbit... I don't know what you use to FTP from your PC, but I have never, I repeat NEVER had to use anything other than Internet Explorer. (except my gamesaves manager, because it translates the saves and all)

This is what I do -- make sure you have whatever you are running set to a valid IP and yadayadayada...

Now, in the address bar, type "ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.1.32" and hit enter. You may have to modify it according to your settings, but if you can ping it, you can browse your xbox just like any windows folder. (ftp://username:password@IPA.ddr.e.ss)
