First, I'd like to start off by saying thank you to any and all input received here. Anyway, I've got a good collection of about 30 "backed-up" DVDS, and just recently I watched the "backup" of Sahara; and about 1/2 way through it started playing goofy; so I took out the disc and wiped it off; and it worked fine after that. But then, a little later in the movie it started doing the same exact thing again!So I think the prob. w/ my DVD is that I'm using paper labels. And what's even worse is that my brother tried watching National Treasure and he said it was messed up too....and that was the very 1st and only time that "backup" was played!!
So I'm pretty sure it's the labels, and I've started backing up my whole collection w/ new blank discs; and just writing on them with a Sharpie this time, no labels. And for the most part its' been going pretty good, but my dvd the Pacifier (it has a label) I was trying to back up, but every time on Nero it says there's a read error; so I tried other software like VOB Blanker or DVD Decrypter to at least get the files on my HD so I can burn them, but it's like it gets worse each time I put the disc in the computer; and now it's to the point where if you're using VOB Blanker and it tries to read the disc; it ends up freezing my computer to sh*t!

So if you've got a solution, feel very free to give any comments/advice, because I need it on this one. And also, to let you know, I've learned my lesson on this one about Not to use labels anymore and just to stick w/ the Sharpie.

ALL YOUR COPIES WILL -( SHOULD) PLAY O/K IF YOU PEEL THE LABELS OFF. I HAD THE SAME PROB, I TRIED A DIFFRENT PLAYER,I CLEANED THE DISC , I CLEANED THE LASER LENS BUT THE DAMN THINGS KEPT FREEZING/ SKIPPING IN THE SAME PLACES SO I PEELED THE LABELS OFF AND THEY PLAYED PERFECTLY.YOU MUST PEEL 'EM OFF SLOWLY (THE THICK LABELS COME OFF EASY,BUT THE THIN ONES ARE QUITE FRUSTRATING AS THEY LEAVE STICKY STUFF BEHIND WHICH IS A PAIN TO REMOVE. I DON'T USE LABELS ANY MORE! DO AS HURSTY SAYS ,GET AN EPSON R200.

Could possibly be the type of media being used as well. Are you using good quality media? I have been "fortunate" to have backed up a couple hundred discs and have put neato labels on them with no problems that I can relate directly to the labels. I use good quality media (verbatim, maxell,etc). The speed at which you burned the movies can be a factor too. If you're patient and burn at 4x you will have better success in many cases. Of course, there is no true absolute and we all have to make adjustments as we go. This site is great for giving direction to even the most seasoned forum users.

@COLSKI

Hey buddy, turn the cap lock off. It's against forum rules to yell at folks.
