Is there a way to scan a disk to check to see if the copy is free from errors without watching it. Dont have time to actually wtach them before I give back copies that arent mine.

If you have a Lite-on or sony drive that is a re-badged lite-on:

http://www.k-probe.com/

If you have Nero, try the Nero speedtest

Or you can try dvdinfopro, get the free version with adverts here:

http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

I prefer dvdinfopro and the PI/PO error scan.

Whats the time span on those? And what does "re-badged" mean?? Thanks in advance.

Rebadge means when a company like sony buys another company's drive and just slaps their name on it, w/o changing anything on the inside. Usually selling it higher than the original price just b/c it's a brand name now.

The times: Well all my single layer backups are 4360 mbs at max. In dvdinfopro's PI/PO scan,It takes me about 20-25 mins or so.

I've just got nero oem so I don't have the function of nero's speedtest. That took about the same 20-25 mins on another pc-I believe.

I don't know about kprobe.Gotta have a litey-rebadged litey for that utility.

Plextor also has a utility, called plextools.I think there's a scan for errors in that program?Gotta have a plextor/re-badged plextor? drive for that one.

Benq has the q-suite. I can't get the scanning test to work on any of my 3 benqs:2-1620's and a 1640.

No biggie about some of the rebadged drives. Sony uses lite-on on certain models/plextor uses benq 1640 on their plextor 740 drives. Phillips has also gone the benq way. Any re-badged drives that aren't made by plextor/lite-on/benq: Then be skeptical.

I/O mega is a good brand name to be cautious of. Their drives are all rebadged that I know of.Their 16x internals are made by at least 3 different manufacturers: Benq-1620/Generic EMPA of middle east FIZO-pure junk/and BTC.
