That's not that good a deal, although we appreciate the post. They're $20 on sale at retailers per 10-pack if you can wait. I think they're also cheaper at Newegg (or were). Christmas Day they were $24 per 10-pack shipped.

Sorry to correct a senior member and all but if you check newegg.com I think you'll find the prices you quoted are for the standard Verbatim double layer. The deal I posted is for the DataLife Inkjet Printables which are retailing on newegg for $86.99.

By comparison the Dell deal is superb, especially as there's an automatic discount when adding to your basket AND free ground shipping. I just picked up the 20 pack for $61.00.

No need to be sorry, woodbane. I didn't notice they were printables, probably 'cause I'm not willing to pay the price. :)

The inkjet printable 25-pack Ridata (Ritek or Ricoh oem) are $45 shipped at Newegg, but are only 2.4X unfortunately.

very nice find woodbane...PRINTABLES are always going to cost a premium over the "standard" DLs...that's a decent price...and going with Verbatim quality, media ID coding in my sig. for Verbatim DVD+R DLs...you will be GOOD TO GO~!

i've had GREAT success with the "standard" Verb DVD+R DLs...these printables should be NO DIFFERENT...

let us know woodbane when you receive them, i'm curious as to see if they are "made in singapore" like the Verbatim DVD+R DLs i have now...have a good one.

'chuckles'....thanks for not shouting me out guys. Sometimes more senior members on forums don't take too kindly to being corrected. ;o)

I have high hopes for these Verbatims, I've used the standard non-printable double layers before with great success. Unfortunately I only recently started DVD backups and was putting lovely labels on things to make them all pretty! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD MOVE! I've since become more educated in the ways of DVD copying and invested in an Epson R200 which has so far produced some amazing looking discs. Luckily I don't have too many discs to redo.

I am getting the Verbatims as replacements for Dysan DVD+R DL's that I got from 'supermediastore'. These are supposedly manufactured by Ritek. Word of warning.......STEER CLEAR! After 5 out of 5 that exhibited playback problems in almost exactly the same place with different movies, I came to the conclusion they were total rubbish and sent them back for a refund. Should have stuck with what I know I guess.

I almost bought some Ritek Ridata DVD+R DL's as in kivory666's signature but the Dysan experience seems to have left a sour taste in my mouth with the word RITEK. Still I'm using 4.7GB Ritek's and they seem OK so probably shouldn't be worried eh?

I'll let y'all know how I get on with those Verbatims's when they arrive and where they're made....if I can remember....brain like a sieve nowadays. :o)

woodbane, the key to the Ritek DLs seems to be to have up to date firmware. My burners choked on them until I got the very latest firmware flashed a few months ago. One was a brand new burner that even needed a flash update. Verbatims are the way to go however, as long as one can get 'em at a decent price. I had hopes they'd be breaking the $2 barrier by now, but alas.

than how do you like my response as an Addict??? lol i'm usually pretty gentle most of the time, but get confrontational with me all hell will break loose~ :)

anyways, firmware, as laddyboy suggested, is very KEY to the Ritek DLs...i've noticed that the "other" DVD+R DLs rebranded by OTHER companies, ie. Memorex, Dysan, Dynex, LG, among others in Europe i am not familiar with, do not fair as well as the Ridata ones...this is only MY limited experience of trying the other ones that have the same RitekD01 coding...

also, these Riteks DL work better on SOME burners than others, i have had ZERO problems with them in my 2 main burners, one being a Liteon and the other being a Pioneer...lot of the "bad comments" you see regarding Ritek DLs is due to "operator being a dumb fuk"...LOL, they don't even have their system setup correctly to BURN onto dl media...this is on TOP of the fact that their firmware is ancient and like 10 revisions behind, they still using the factory firmware right out of the box! :)

so, be careful before jumping to conclusions that Ritek DLs are "BAD" or "SUCK"...if i can have 60+ burned successfully, then why can't the next guy? it's simply NOT possible that i got the ONLY 4 batches of 25-pack that were "good quality"...and the thousands of other Ritek DLs were ALL "bad batches"...

lot of people "blame the media" first...before they even grasp the basics of DL burning...lot of times, it's "operator error"...i'm not saying that your unsuccessful DL burns with the RitekD01s were such, i'm just saying that if EVERYTHING else is setup properly on YOUR setup, there really should be no problems...

yes, i admit my Verbatim DLs prove to be "better quality" (backups seem a little more 'crisp' when playback on my HD plasma, however small the detail, i have noticed it)...and i can burn them at higher speeds, BUT, that only proves that i PREFER Verbatims over the Riteks, NOT that the Riteks do not work...because simply stated, they work just fine... :)

we all have our OWN experiences with a particular brand and make of dvd disc...whether it be Verbatim, Ritek, or the RicohJpn DLs...manufacturers and their quality control will always vary to some degree...i have just PERSONALLY found, this is MY EXPERIENCE ONLY, that the Ridata (Ritek's own brand) of DVD+R DL discs have been very good, i bought them in both the jewel case 5-pack as well as 4 tubs of the 25-pack spindles from newegg. so far, i've gone through about 60 of them, not a single coaster yet...so based on MY OWN EXPERIENCE with them, i have nothing negative to say about their quality....

good luck, i can clearly see why it has left a "sour taste" in your mouth, if i was "burned" no pun intended, by a particular Media ID coded disc, i would have very similar feelings...who is to say that Ridata discs with IDENTICAL coding will be any better? i totally understand your point of view...

nope, not a problem. remember long long time ago, i was asking about my firmware?
i have done since upgraded (i have the 1633s btw) and have not had a problem yet. i was, however, interested in cross flashing, but scared to fry the drive. did'nt know what gains i would get from it. i think rip speeds may be a bit faster, i'm hitting 8x average now, fast enuff for me.

oh yea, that was YOU wasn't it in the dvd drive forums~ :)

cross-flashing will only give you pretty lights that i am aware of...MIGHT help with the rip speeds, i get about 10-12x right now...are u using a 40-wire or 80-wire cable? my drive is faster since i upgraded to 80-wire a few years ago...

not sure on the cable....... i'd have to crack it open to verify. i'm too tired to do it anyway, it's 12:30 here now, i know you are 2 hrs behind me.
that question i asked was when i joined here... that was about 7 months ago or so.
if i remember correctly, i'd have to say its the 40 wire. the drive has 3 connectors to it, one is red, the other is the power and then a small pig tail in there too.
i'm off tomorrow, i'll take a peek then. i'm off to bed anyway.

thanks doc ty x2

I have the 1693S (actually the 1693SX external version with KSOA firmware) as well. I also have the Pioneer 109 (with Buffalo 8.57 firmware to enable booktyping) in an external case, and I just got the LG 5163D (external version of the 4163B). I typically use my Litey for scans and Verbs, and my Pioneer for TY in both formats. This LG (with A104 firmware) burns the hell out of TY and Ritek G05 as well!!! Going to feed it some Verbs tomorrow...
