Quite honestly, that burner is very old. I doubt the firmware is even close to up to date for the newer media. Spring for the $40US and get a new burner.

What is the rated speed for the media?
Try downloading DVD Identifier from the site in my signature below and get the media code. TDK is very good media usually, especially if labeled Made in Japan. If the rated speed is above 8X, chances are your firmware probably doesn't recognize it.

The 1.0C firmware was dated Sept. 2004 so it's not going to be up to date for newer media.

Some of the TDK -Rs are MCC and TY and there is nothing wrong with them. We need to know who made the ones he has.

digitalfaq can go SHOVE it~ :) that website's critique on media is so outdated it's not even funny, LOTS has changed since then. with manufacturers, quality control, etc...

even though i seem to be the ONLY ONE on afterdawn that despises TDK that much, they are NOT considered "good quality" media...especially their own "TT" coded stuff in either format~ :P

if you've seen even a GLIMPSE of the problems i have seen with TDK media from OTHERS as well as myself and personal experience...TDK will never be much higher than friggin CMC MAG on MY list of media~

this is nothing directed at YOU laddyboy, just wanted to make that clear, i'm not flaming ANYONE here...i just happen to be one that DETESTS TDK's own manufactured media and it's been CRAP to me among countless others that have come to me via PM for help using TDK media...

happy new years~ no harm, no foul~ :) keep up the good work laddyboy, i've read some of your posts...good stuff...but, TDK and "good quality" do NOT belong in the same sentence or even the same PAGE~ and digitalfaq is only a GUIDE, nothing more...

docTY~

No offense taken, Doc. I guess I've never had the bad experience with TDK you've had, but then I've been fortunate to not get saddled with the relabeled CMC Mags, etc, only the TYs for me and that was long ago. I'm mostly a Verbatim guy myself.
