OMG! I feel like such a noob, but I have to ask so I feel like less of a noob once I know...I'm aware spyware is one of the greater tools of the devil, but what exactly does it do? Obviously, there are many different kinds, but generally, what the hell does it do? Is it a protocol for viruses/hackers/marketing places/all of the above? Help me out here...

basically finds out what you like and sends a lot fo spam your way over it and sends your details around a bit!!

I recommend using ad-aware to get rid of known "ads". Try http://www.spychecker.com/adaware.html among others.
Also use Kazaa Lite if you're that bothered about it all!

Yeh I have Adaware 6 Pro and its great!! It removes all the shit off the computer :)

I use spybot search and destroy and that finds more spyware than any other programs I've tried, such as adaware or spy sweeper and it's also free. http://security.kolla.de/

Also, even with kazza lite, spybot detected spyware. Unfortunately, if the spy ware is uninstalled, you can't run kazza lite anymore. Still, spybot helps get rid of all the other crap!

Ps. be careful of viruses on kaza, i got one the first time i used it recently!

felixcat, Ad aware 6 professional rules all :P

lol but what i wanted to say was that, what its detecting with kazaa lite is cd_clint.dll. This file would have been listed as spyware but with kazaa lite the spyware would have been removed so dont worry about it!!
