Problems with burning DVD's - skipping problems

Hi guys,
I have had a lot of success asking questions and getting great answers from you so please tell me in a way a non tech person can understand.
Every DVD I burn skips. I use blank DVD-R Verbatim that you guys have suggested. I have purchased a DVD cleaner. I use a Sony Double layer Dual RW Drive. I have used this drive for a few years and maybe it's the problem. I don't know.
I burn from from DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter.
It seems that I can not make a good copy.
When I rent a DVD it shows fine in my DVD player, but don't let me make a back up and it will skip every time.
Any suggestions?

Hi sheilah, I know that you know copying rented DVD;s is illegal, so think about what you tell..
If you own a DVD it?s OK to make a back-up for your personal use..
Is it the Back-up you make that?s skipping?
I had a problem with Verbatim ?R?s, coded MCC02RG20, some of them were fakes in 2005.
Try burning at a very low speed, like 2x and see if that works..
I use Verbatin 16X, +R coded MCC004 and have had no trouble with them.
If it?s the original disc that skips and won?t allow you to copy, then try cleaning real good with soap and water..
Check for scratches.
Let us know and give a little more info. On what you?re doing, exactly.

What speed are you burning at? And have you tried a diff. player?

Hi Sheilah
I think your problem is burn speed also. Sounds like you are burning too fast. Slow down to at least 4x. I think that will solve your problem.
Government big enough to supply everything you need is powerful enough to take everything you have.

Alright. I surely meant that making back up of my personally purchased DVD's.
I have no problems with skipping while I play back on my DVD Rom on my computer. This problem is on the second DVD player I have used in my home.
I can't say what speed I copy, but if slowing down my copy speed, I'll work at changing the speed.

sheilah, if you have no problem playing back on your DVD-ROM then it very well could be the disc or a compatibility problem with your stand-alone player.
Rule 1: Always use the best disc available. Example: Taiyo Yuden, TDK, Verbatim, and Maxell.

Rule 2: Always burn your disc at ˝ the advertised speed. That is, if it?s a 4x disk, burn at 2x an 8x disk burn at 4x, 16x burn at 8x, etc, etc. But if it?s a poor quality disk, drop it to 2x no matter what the advertised speed is?
Rule 3: This is my personally rule: Use Only +R discs so that you can Book type them to DVD-ROM and make them more compatible with all DVD Players, New or Old..

I think it's the player. A comp's DVD ROM is more advance than a regular player. Is the second player a lil old by any chance? If you try it on 2 diff. players then it can't be the disc. Well might be the disc cause like I said about the comp's DVD ROM (few sentences up).

Easy, but usually only if made in Japan... I forgot to state that..
1ST CLASS MEDIA
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer (Japan) = (-R)(-RW) ... media is no longer made
MXLRG0x = Maxell (Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
YUDENT, TYG0x = Taiyo Yuden (Japan) = (-R)(+R)
MCC, MKM = Mitsubishi Chemicals (Singapore/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)(+R)(+RW)
TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x = TDK Corp (Taiwan/Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
SONY0xD = Sony (Japan/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)
