RCA DRC8295N Combo DVD/VHS Recorder

Does anyone have this unit? I found only one reference to it on your forum, and it involved using a stablizer. I didn't think that would work on a combo unit anyway.

I am considering purchasing the RCA DRC8295N on EBay... a refurbished unit. I am also going to buy the 3 year extended warranty. I am limited to the $165 I am spending for the total package.

I just would like to know if this anyone here has knowledge of this combo unit. I had 3 VHS recorders that all died within 2 months of each other. Never had a DVD recorder, other than the one on my Dell Laptop. :) Buying this RCA will kill 2 birds. Allow me to backup my purchased DVD's and get all of my VHS "stuff" onto DVD's. HOWEVER, if it is JUNK, even the 3-year warranty wouldn't be a good trade-off. I guess it would be better to not buy one at all and save up for a few months. What do you think?

May I make this a 2-fold question? Being a newbie, I read your threads about the software and forum info that will be removed in a few days. The list of software is huge! Can someone tell me which of all those software titles to get that would be FREEWARE? I definitely want to back up my commercial DVD's & VHS films. I have already messed up one by SITTING on it and cracking it. I know, I know. Duh...
