hi all, i have had my ps2 now for 2-3 years and it had worked perfectly since then. but now for some reason, it wont load anything.
i insert the game into the tray and close it, and all the happens is me hearing the dvd spinning and the screen going to that browser/sys config screen. when i go in to browser it says reading disc but nothing happens, and eventually it will say disc read error.
please help! thanks

This is probably the most common error with old PS2s. It generally means the DVD reading laser has failed. Someone else might be able to help further.

I dont reccommend you vaccum your PS2. I had bad experiance with doing that with a computer, some capacitor or something got sucked out and ruined it.
You could take the case off and clean the dust off the lens with a can of compressed air.

I doubt the modchip had anything to do with it. Lasers can die for many reasons, Bbad media is a example, and stressing the laser. As I said, it seems PS2 lasers tend to die after about 2-3 years.

ok. would it be possible that when the chip was being fitted the laser was moved and just needs adjusting? i opened the machine to see if the laser was burnt out, but all i couldnt see any signs of it being damaged. when i load a disc or a restart the machine the red light in the laser flashs, so it cant be damaged...

Check all ribbon cable connections to the laser. One might have come out.
