Hi, using studio 9 & burning to maxell dvd-r 1x8x using emprex 16x. Managing to burn some discs, others in same pack not burning at all. Can play back on my writer but not dvd drive samsung sd-616q, nor dvd player on tv. Have used maxell dvd-r 1x 4x in the past which would play on our tv but not on anyone elses. 1x8x will play back partly on tv but jumps then freezes completely. Have tried on other folks tv & computer & they all freeze up.
Where do I start, is the fault with Studio, the discs, the writer or me.

have you tried MS hotfixes and/or upgrading your dvd drive firmware? Sometimes this will fix these type issues. Also, sometimes the media is the problem. Try purchasing a small 5 pack of a better known manufacturer like Ritek, Sony, Memorex. Could be your media. Hope this helps.

thanks for that, have upgraded firmware & there is a vast improvement. Just a small jump at start of dvd when playing on our tv. Plays on both dvd drives on computer. Now to see if it is compatable with our friends dvd player.

That's great news. Another tidbit of info. I always burn at the lowest possible speed, ie. 2x. The faster the burn, the better chance of errors. My motto is slow and simple with no or as little compression as possible. Also less chance for error. Takes a little longer but it's worth it.
