I have had no problems using my old Sony 700 and AnyDVD, Shrink and Decrypter. I just bought a new computer with a Lite On SHW-160p6s. I updated the firmware to the newest. The drive plays normal audio and cd disks fine. But I put in Fantastic Four and the drive just spins. Powerlink DVD will not run it either. AnyDVD says no drive found, Shrink and Decrypter say the same. Fantastic 4 works fine in my old computer and the Sony. Anyone have any suggestions.

So it's new computer you say, hummm....

Well I know you said that you updated the recorder's firmware, if you don't mind click on the link and make sure you got what you need.

http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd%20...

What you got there is a 16X multi-format dvd burner that is capable of dvd playback, but it's not going to be able to do that unless it came with software (usually pre-installed unless you bought the drive seperately) that contains a DVD decoder, only with this installed will the recorder recognize DVDs. I'm not familiar with powerlink dvd, but if it came pre-installed and has a decoder bundled with it, something could be wrong with it's decoder. There are several things you could try:

1. Uninstall powerlink reboot, re-install and retry
2. Try installing what ever software you used on the old computer to play and view DVD's
3. Try playing the dvd using windows media player or even Media Player Classic. If using windows media player goto tools..options..file types and check DVD video (if DVD video option is not there then there is no DVD decoder installed)
4. Get powerdvd (costs money)

Other things to also check:
Make sure it's setup for UDMA made 4 in device manager not PIO
Uninstall the IDE controller then reboot (don't worry, it's ok)

If all fails, you could have a defective drive.

The drive was bad. I took it back and they tested it. NG. They were out of Lite On's. I got a Samsung/Toshiba SH-W162c. I hope this is a pretty good drive.
