Toshiba dvd player doesn't play burned discs ?

Hi Guys,
This is a preventative medicine question.
I just bought the Toshiba SD-4980SC HD
dvd player eventhough reviews of this
machine said it wouldn't play burned discs.
Ok,so I took a chance because the price was
good.I got lucky,it is playing my dvd-r
discs ok.
But,if this machine starts to get finicky
and won't play burned discs is there
anything I can do to it to fix it?
