I've used two lower end DVD Recorders: Cyberhome 1600 and Presidian 3222 (LiteOn 1105). I have been able to rip the files these produce to my hard drive and also convert them to mpeg2.

When I try to import these mpegs into Nero Vision Express 3 they do not import and do not generate an error message. When I try to import the same files into Windows Movie Maker they generate this error message:
Quote:
{long file name} could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from
I have spoken with customer service reps of both companies. Each said their particular model was designed to produce playable DVDs, not to edit files. Therefore, they wouldn't be surprised if the files created were uneditable. The Presidian rep added that I might have to find some kind of workaround, if I wanted to edit these files.

Are there workarounds? Is there a chance a different edit program could import such files? Or can some video files be truly uneditable? (In which case I'd invoke the 30-day return on my Presidian and begin my search for a different recorder.) I'm a newb and I'd appreciate any explanations or suggestions you can give me. Thanks very much.

What proggy are you using to rip? Do you necessarily have to use Nerovision to burn? Do they have to be MPEGS? Why don't you rip the movie you want and burn the VOB's as a DVD? Have you tried DVD Decrypter and/or DVDShrink? They are both free proggy's and utilize Nero as their burn engine. So you are already halfway there. Both can be downloaded and are freeware. Google them to find the download sites. Then you my friend will be in business.

I'm open to using whatever program that works. But whether VOB or MPEG the files won't go into Nero, WMM, nor a couple of freeware editors I've downloaded recently. That, and what the CS reps told me would seem to imply something "special," meaning proprietary, about the files these recorders produce.

These are actually TV shows, not movies, that I'm trying to move from DVD+R/W or my hard drive to DVD+/-. I'd like to cut the commercials for obvious reasons, but in some cases I want some of the promos and commercials, not the programs themselves. Hence the need to edit. I can burn compilations from these VOBs and MPEGs no problem. I can even trim the ends. But that isn't really what I'm looking to do.

It might be good to try Womble for video editing with this situation. Once you have the mpeg that is.
