Hello all,

Recently I purchased a ModBo 2.0 Modchip from www.modchip.com, on the basis that that they had "world famous" instructions and the fact that my father works with organs and electronics and soddering everyday.

Some more information, I have a version 3 PS2, and we disassembled the PS2, and when we got into it we found that the pictures from the PDF files from Modchip.com of the PS2 motherboard differed greatly from the actual motherboard that we were working on. It must have been a different version motherboard or something similar.

Upon searching the internet I found ModBo's homepage and found a picture for installation on a USA version 3 PS2 from a picture found at: www.modbo.com/img/USA-V3.jpg

We decided to go ahead with the install, on the basis of that picture, and we got the chip installed and reassembled the PS2, when we booted it up and tried it, we got a black screen, no video, no audio, nothing. Tried various means of disabling the mod-chip using the controllers, but again no luck.

During the installation we took photos of the install, (in part to send to mod-chip.com so anyone else with a version 3 PS2 wouldn't run into the same problem that we had.), I'm going to post these photos, here so any of the people who are "advanced modders" can view them and see if off hand they can pick out anything wrong that we did. The instructions mention a line G, for their mod-chip install, but in the picture we used, we couldn't find a connection G. We had the 18 wires that the instructions stated that we needed for a V3 PS2.

The instructions I got from the pdf file at mod-chip.com under the troubleshooting section state to: check M-W points which we did with a volt meter, we checked the power and ground wire connection with the volt meter, I assume that the wires are laid flat against the motherboard, but from the picture maybe they are not flat enough? We checked for bridges between the pins, didn't see any but we are going to take the PS2 apart tommorrow and check again. The instructions we got also stated that if the R and W wires were too long it may result in a black screen, does anyone have a definition of "too long"?

Here are the pictures below, if anyone sees anything wrong with them, or has any suggestions of what to test, or what to do to fix this problem and get the chip and the PS2 working again I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry picture goof:

bump for divine justice.

found that the wires to the BIOS were actually soddered on the wrong side of the BIOS chip, corrected that, and still no luck....

Anyone have any additional ideas?

please tell me that is not aluminum foil you have the board laying on???

cant tell you what to long is for a modbo, but a dms3/4 doesn't like lengthy leads at all and the shorter the better, Magics on the other hand can have wires a foot long and I've even installed chips outside the motherboard on the side rails of the expansion bay with no problems.

I've seen allot worse attempts at modding that worked, just double check everything and if all else fails, pull the chip out and try it unmodded, if all works then, taking your time go back and do a tidy neat job of putting all wires in as short as possible.
