hi folks,please help..ive been given a modded v12,ps2 from china,
it works fine but wont play dvds,,,wait,i know about the pal and ntsc thing,but this console plays anything on quality media.its so strange,it recognises,verbatim and sony -dvdrs,and no others.but recognises most cheap brand +dvdrs...im sure its the chip,but desperately want to know what brand of chip it is without opening again.if its any help,the chip works direct boot,and is the quietist and fastest i have came across.please help guys,seanyboy.xxx

some chips give an indication when they first boot if you see nothing to get any sort of clue, the only way to know is to take it apart. you don't have to dismantle it just open the case, look at the chip and compare it till you know which one you have.

I modded my Korean (70005) about a month ago and found the same problem. The only DVD's I can watch are ones I have from China. That's not what I got the machine for though.
When the machine boots up, and the black screen with the white PlayStation logo comes up, does the screen say anything else. Mine comes up with Modbo 2.0 under the "tion" of PlayStation.

I got my V12 PS2 70006 while I was in China last year (I live in Australia by the way so I had to change the power cord)and bought and installed a Matrix Infinity chip. My system has no problems playing anything on any type of media. When I boot the PS2 I get a logo saying 'Matrix' then the screen goes to the normal PS2 screen.

I'm guessing your problem may be related to your chip.
