Hi; I've been burning movies for the last few months but it's always been hit or miss. For every 2 movies I burned, 1 would fail. Now they are all failing. I use DVD Shrink & Decrypter. Decrypter gets 9% of the way through the burn then fails. My burner that came with the computer is only a year and a half old and should not be failing already, (its a Nu DVDRW DDW-081). I'm so sick of these useless "coasters" piling up. I've read where people submit the Nero logs, but I can't find them. Any answers would be appreaciated as I'm readly to ditch this burner...Thanks

Logs are located under Programfiles\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory. I will just need the last section, the sections are divided by this thing:

====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======

So basically one full log stretches from one

====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======

to another

====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======.

And remember to edit out your serial number which will usually start w/ 1A2 or somehting. It's at the top of every log entry. And if you still can't find it just search NeroHistory.

Do you have a DVD log? Could you look for one? That would really help me. But here is what I can tell from you CD log.
Quote:
Recorder: <NU DVDRW DDW-081> Version: BX32 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.8
Your Nero is out of date, current Nero is 6.6.0.18. Your firmware is up to date, but the firmware came out over 2 years ago. So you might want to call or go to the official site and see if there is a newer one.
Quote:
CdRomPeripheral : NU DVDRW DDW-081 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off
Your DMA is off, here is how you can fix it:

http://www.burstcopy.com/dma/xp/

if that doesn't work then try this, it's a guide written by alkohol:

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver ?for Win XP users?))

A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner?s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the ?IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?

(A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
(B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
(C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

Are you multi-tasking? You should shut down all progs. when burning. OR use something like Enditall2 which will close everything for you.

I hope this is a CD log, you should burn a DVD over 8x. 4x is best though.
