This really pisses me off...in a matter of one day prices have raised by 10 cents per disc (see supermediastore's own brand) ...this ADDS up when u buy in bulk. Goddamn it, the industry just wants to milk every cent our of their loyal customers!

Probably for two reasons: The price of oil went up and the law of supply and demand. You'll have to wait for oil prices to come back down and for the supply to exceed the demand to see prices fall very much.

good point xgasman. I wouldnt be surprised if they continue to slowly rise. at some point as new technology comes, they will fall. but for the time being it will burn your pocket. www.shop4tech.com has some decent prices...shop around...

My sales rep mentioned this may happen when I talked to her last week (I uses lots of DVD-R as part of my company's data center along with Pioneer DVD library systems). The sales rep mentioned that one of the chemicals used to make the dyes was in short supply and that I should expect a DVD-R price jump. I didn't believe her but if what you say is true I guess it might. I doubt oil and Iraq has anything to do with DVD-R prices, most DVD-Rs come from Asia, not the middle east.

So is it correct to assume that as soon as we went to war, dvd-r prices jumped, and this is no cooincidence

I don't think that is to good of a conclusion. The price of a barrel of oil has dropped in the past few days/week. Thats why here in the eastern part of the US our gas prices haven't risen. The supply on the film used on dvd-r's being low sounds like a more reasonable excuse.

I heard the price for the raw plastic has increased and that is what is driving prices up. The price of oil might be driving the plastic costs but oil is now coming down so hopefully price will too.
