This is probably a question right up kivory666's alley. Are we splitting hairs between these two types? I think they are the same rated capacity but what I was wondering is if given the choice is there a difference. I've never used the TYG02's and I think that is what supermediastore has for a fairly reasonable price. Is Yuden000-T02 just the retail version of the same thing?
TyG02 is the dash 8x format.
Yuden000-T02 is the plus 8x format.
When you order off the web,the dash format is cheaper. Price is the same on local store purchases, but harder to find the tyg02 media.
Very good media,2 different formats. It all depends on which format your drives and stand alones will handle.
I favor the Yuden000-T02 because I booktype the plus format to dvd-rom. The booktyped dvd rom backups are a heck of a lot more compatable than my dash backups. It's not even close!
i knew i heard my name called somewhere...radar is working quite well~ :)
anyways, the same quality is adhered to for ALL genuine Taiyo Yuden media..to answer your question, the difference between the 2 is ONLY the format~ :)
TYG02 = 8x DVD-R format with the GG000XXX inner hub coding (XXX being the batch number of when it was manufactured)
YUDEN000T02 = 8x DVD+R format with the TG000XXX inner hub coding (XXX being once again the numerical batch number of when they were made)
it comes down to compatibility and personal preference...whether YOU and your standalones like DVD-R or DVD+R, in the latter, i would suggest booktyping the DVD+R to dvd-rom for BETTER standalone compatibility~ :)
quality wise, they are the same, just different format...i got thousands of TYG02 and YUDEN000T02, my wife's family's stand alone Toshiba for some ODD reason doesn't like my YUDEN000T02 booktyped to dvd-rom, while it LOVES the dash format TYG02...very odd, but that's what the machine likes...this is true for my parents standalone player too~ :)
ALL my standalones i personally own will play either, so, for me, i just burn on whatever is closest to me at the time...either format, Taiyo Yuden has never let me down~ :)
hope that clarifies and answers your question regarding Taiyo Yudens...Happy New Year buddy...

Honestly, I prefer the YUDEN000T02 -- maybe that's because I like to book type them into DVD-ROM. So far it has been playing flawlessly on any of my standalone dvd players.

For the dash format, the only tys that I know of are on some of the japanese spindles of fuji dash 8x. I know some of the mult-colored 30 spindle packs have some of these fuji in them at staples and maybe bestbuy.
Those Yuden000-T02 are a lot easier to find. These are on the japanese spindles of fuji and sony accucore 8x media.
Taiwan also makes some media for both sony and fuji,so check those labels good.
Another great japanese manufacturer is Hitachi. Maxell uses some hitachi media in both formats. Again, check those labels out for the ones made in Japan. Taiwan also makes maxells and majority of those are made by ritek-with a very slim chance of cmags.
