Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!

I'm not a DVD burning pro like many of you, but I am learning. My question is what is the Best DVD+ DL Media? I have a Benq 1640 and have read horror stories about using RiData DVD+ DL discs. I guess they don't burn well, or at all, for the Benq 1640.

Please help me sort through any myths and find a good DVD+ DL media for my burner. If you have the same burner as I, please let me know what you use and your opinions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Verbatim DVD+R DL for me hands down!! I've burned them over 30 plus and I've never encountered any issues/glitches whatsoever.

*NOTE: make sure it's "made in singapore", especially for their DL media.

i've got a Benq 1640 as well as the Sony that my buddy alkohol has...i too would recommend the Verbatim "made in singapore" for the Benq 1640 drive...i have 100+ DVD+R DL all successful under my belt using the Verbatim brand...

i have about 60+ successful of the Ritek Ridata ones that you are worrying about, they DO work on the Benq 1640, the only thing is the Verbatims burn FASTER than the Ritek ones do~ :)

just make sure your firmware is up to date on the Benq, im currently using the BSNB firmware with great success, but i burned MOST of my DL media when i was using the BSMB firmware...i don't see much difference between the 2 personally...i just like to be up to date on my firmware for ALL my drives~ :)

happy new year and i hope that has helped you a lil bit in your decision...my DL success is in my sig...with appropriate media ID coding as well...

note: i've noticed that other BRANDS (memorex, dynex, fuji, and a slew of other brands in europe that i have never used-since i'm in the U.S.) that use RitekD01 as the media ID coding do NOT fair as well as the Ritek Ridata ones i use...that's just a personal observation and is in no way concrete...

Thanks everyone for your responses to my question. Being technically challenged with DVD burning, you are all a big help! So Verbatim it is!

kivory666, you said that you are using firmware BSNB. I looked at the BenQ Website, and they only list BSMB for the 1640. Are you using a special/modified or beta firmware from other then BenQ? I'm just curious as I try to keep my firmware updated.

Thanks again for everyones help!

Ahhh...

I previously went to benq.com, selected United States, then DVD writers. That's where they just list BSMB firmware. But going to the long link below, I see that BenQ now has BSOB, which was released on 12/23/05. I wonder why they don't update the other area of their Website?

Thanks again for everyones help!
