I am attempting to back up my DVD of Jason X with DVD Shrink and I am getting an error I have never seen before:

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue."
"Programmin error - exception occoured"

Any ideas as to what this means and how to get around it?

Well it's telling you that it's a 'problem' disc and it can't handle it.
Haven't done this one so don't know if it's due to the copy protection or the 'jumping boy'. Rip it first with either decrypter and dvdfab decrypter then process thru shirnk as usual.

Here is a list of problematic movies, those movies with hard to crack protection, you will see the explanation for the running/jumping boy protection.

It's a video of a boy jumping in a VOB file in the unreferenced material of the movie. Right now I can't think of which movies have this!!

I just ran it through DVD Decrypter and got the same error in DVD Shrink. So I ran it through DVDFab Express and got this error:

"Invalid access to memory location."

??????

Which region are you in? Just curious - this was released in 2002 (US) so the only thing I think that could be a problem would be the 'jumping boy' which decrypter should easily handle.
Check out alkohol's post and make sure your settings are this in decrypter:

Another thing to try is to 'disable' the preview screen in shrink - uncheck it - that may work.

I am in Region 1.
I finally got it to work. I ran it through VOB Blanker and blanked out the FBI Warning in the beginning (that's where is was sticking), and it continued on the way it should have in the first place.

I would like to thank you all for your guidance and assistance. It is greatly appreciated.

I also went into DVD Decrypter and changed the setting to what Alkohol has suggested.
