o, forgot to ask.
say with the replacement case that take the full size dvd's it's the case that's altered a bit with added room and a wider lid. Right?
So therefore the full size dvd is there for cost efficiency, as the maximum amount of data for the gc to read is 1.46 gigs, am I correct?
if so, would cutting down a full size dvd work? does it affect the data and the laser in any way?
thanks again for any assistance provided.

Mini DVD+/-Rs are the same as their full size counterparts in all but size. Don't try cutting the a DVD-R to fit in the GameCube, that's just foolish. It could throw it off balance for one, and the disc won't last nearly as long or work as well as it should if at all. The replacement case's only purpose is for cost efficiency, as you suspect. Since full size DVD's are so much cheaper, many opt to get a replacement case.

The replacement case is basically the same as the orginal one, although the inside bit around the laser bit where u put ur games, has been widened and shaped so that a full size dvd can fit.

I did answer it.
Mini DVD+/-Rs are the same as their full size counterparts in all but size.
Since full size DVD-Rs work, mini DVD-Rs are going to work as well.

Venom, take a moment to read ALL the letters before you spaz out. He asked if mini +/- RW worked. Not mini +/- R. You know, the rewritable kind?
Oh, and to answer the original poster's question... it looks like you don't want to waste your time with RWs. According to the list Boki gave, only 1 brand of RW works worth a damn. Stick to R's.

ya, that's exactly what I wanna do, buy like 1 or 2 and try out the games, if they work, I'll go ahead and put them on a mini dvd (ridata). seems to be cool, unfortunately all the mini rw's seem to be a hassle, none of them work properly according to the list provided.

CMC-W01-012 / Testbrand / fullsize DVD+RW / Womble / working None!
These work but they are full size. One thing you could try is burn image to this and then run it with the GameCube Lid off!!!
I think the list is just a guide! Dont trust it fully

That list shouldn't be treated as 100% fact anyway. Just take it as a guide that dictates what media generally works and doesn't work. What doesn't work for some people may still work for others. Kinda like how DVD+R media work fine for some and not for others.

You can get the Viper GC Extreme from a couple places really.
I ordered my replacement lens from here, so I'd say it's a safe bet.
