i'm using a lite on +/- 16x dvd burner, and i'm using dvd shrink/decryptor combo ( i like the free stuff ;-P ) and i'm following "pete's guide" to using this combo. Im only one for about 10 as far as bad dvd's are concerned, but i get a "brute force crack" somethin error and i click ignore or watever, and it continues to ripp to my hard drive.. can anyone tell me what this is? ..and i'm sorry but yes i've done what i can as far as looking for an answer on the forums, but like i said i'm pritty newb at this stuff so i coudlnt' find an answer. Feel free to email me (or reply which ever =) ) at [Email Removed By Mod], thanks for any help. Btw, not sure if this matters, but i use maxel +r..sometimes -r. thx again, and to all those who've posted on here lol you've helped me out ALOT.

Posting email addresses is agains the rules. You can find a link to them in my signature if you have any questions.
BTW I've never had any problems where DVD Decrypter had to use Brute Force to crack the encryption (that I've noticed anyway), but as long as it does get broken I wouldn't be worried about it. The media you're writing to won't have any affect on this since it isn't even happening during the write process.

You can get that message about brute force on certain movies - like the one's that have macrovision rip guard. Just click okay. Which movie did you get this on?

Welli've thought of a couple other issues i'm having. Before when i was trying to re-author i was unchecking the sub-pictures (which if i understand correctly are subtitles?) and i dont know if its a coincident or not, but i was getting a sound error and of course i can't remember exactly what it was or have its log or anything, but has anyone an idea of what that could have been? i simply ignored it,and the movie seemed to come out ok... And also when i recently burned coach carter, wheni try to play the dvd on my portable dvd player which is a lite-on 16x(not sure if that matters) i get subtitles in english lol and i cant get them off . They dont show up on my dvd player in my living room. Any thoughts?..and what is it that will make a dvd play fine on one dvd and another player not even register it, when both players say they play +/-R?..sorry to sound likea 5 year old. but im tryin to learn the best i can about this stuff. Thx again for any suggestions, these forums have been a HUGE help.
P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

As thelox714 said media could be your playback issue. Also what is your burn speed?
I had the subtitle thing show up on 1 or 2 but all I did was either turn the subtitles off on the remote or change the option in the main menu.
As for clicking off the sub picture & receiving an error - don't know never received that one - do you remmeber the error?

i use maxxel +r and some -r, recently thought with the errors i wasusing +r. though honestlyi haven't the slightest clue the difference in the 2. As far as speed i thought the programs decided that determining whether or not i chose for high sharpness and quality. and i usually pick the highest quality, hense it takes longer..like an hour or more. so i would think its like 3.7-4x. And i tried turning off the sub titles within the portable dvd players menu and they were still there :-P very strange.... So are maxels good media or no?

-r are more compatible w/ players than +r though + r can be booktyped to dvd-rom making them very compatible w/ all players. There are a few more but that's simple version. If your burner can booktype than that's the route I'd go to stop some of the discs not playing.
Your other problem can be burning at max - this also causes plyaback issues. Make sure you don't have decrypter set to max. The program along with the media will determine the max speed but you can lower it down in decrypter. Keep it around 4x
Maxells can be good- depends on who manufactured them - just buy the ones that are made in japan only.
Here's a free prog to id who made them:

I just realized you have a liteon so you probably just need to download the liteon utility to enable booktyping on your drive. Post back the model #.
To make your discs almost 99.9% compatible in all players booktype +r discs to dvd-rom. No need for -R. Booktyping(bitsetting) the discs fools the player into thinking the disc is a dvd-rom.
Make sure you use quality discs like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Those Maxells could be good just depends on who actually made them.
