Is there a free program that will rip my 132 minute dvd into one (or two, I guess) neat avi(s) (or mpegs or whatever the hell will burn onto a dvd) that I can easily burn onto a 4.7GB dvd that doesn't throw a large watermark in the middle or some other aspect that renders the "fully-functional" demo useless?
I've been screwing with ripping and transcoding and ending up with like 10 separate files that I can't even burn onto the damn thing.
CloneDVD hates me and complains about not having enough room for the 8gb file on my 15gb partition
I don't have any insane menus or subtitles that I can take off, either.

Also, if my burner is set at region 3 will my burned dvds be region 3 as well?
If so, please tell me so I can arrange for my quick and painless death.

try using DVDx or DVD2AVI, these will convert your files to AVI...

download and install DVD43 to fix region compatiblilty (dont worry if you have a RPC locked drive your discs will not be burned in that region unless you want it to and also you will only beable to read movie discs from that region, if you have any changes left, i recommend you set it to your countries settings...)
