I'm currently helping a friend install a larger HD in his Xbox. After he had problems softmodding his own box, we successfully rescued his disk using xboxhdm 1.9 i.e. unlocked, rebuilt the C partition, relocked, and reinstalled.
With that accomplished, we cloned the disk on to a 250 GB Hitachi DeskStar (as checked against http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/), locked it, and installed it, only to get an error code 06. We have unlocked and relocked the 250GB disk several times using the same password that was successfully used on the stock drive, but we receive the same error. We have also tried using the password on an old stock drive that I had lying around with similarly disappointing results.
I have softmodded two other Xboxes in which I have installed larger drives. While both of those installations went without a hitch, I am at my wit's end with the current mod. Does anyone have suggestions for things that we may have overlooked?
FWIW, the two modded systems were very old, but the problematic system was purchased new within the past year. Could this be relevant?

Nevermind. Passwords are system+HD dependent. I feel appropriately (exceptionally) stupid. Fixed by using eeprom instead of manually entering a password.
