1) Does anybody know where I can get information on what DVD players are capable of playing DVD+R DL media? None of the manufacturers seem to mention anything about Dual Layer. Is it safe to assume that if it plays DVD+R, that it will play DVD+R DL?

2) It seems that most DVD player manufacturers list EITHER DVD-R OR DVD+R. Are there any set-top DVD players that play both?

Try this site and check off the features you want for a list of dvd players:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
Just becuase it will play +r does not neccessarily mean it will play a +r dl. This is 'newer' media and standalones seem to have a problem with burned ones. The best bet if your drive is capable is to booktype the dl disc to DVD-Rom - the most compatible format.
A lot of the new dvd players will accept both formats but your right from I've seen they sure don't list it on the box!
