hi everyone, im new to this so if i make a mistake then please let me know. I'v just got latest version slimline ps2 (the one with the metal piece in the lid hinge) and i was just wondering what the general opinion of the the slimtool mk2 is, i.e. ease of installation, long term use, ease of damage to ps2 and tool itself. any other comments would be great thanks.

Works for those who manage to fit it in, it is sometimes tricky, and requires a fiddle, but once its in it works fine.

robidoo,

slimtool mk2 has been very problematic for me. Particularly, the long piece that fits in the upper left arm of the cover. I have to continuously readjust this part and it fails very often. The longest it has lasted so far has been about an hour. It does not seem to hold its position very well and does not make good contact with the sensor it's meant to disable. Does anyone else have problems like this with part 3? Please relate any solutions if you've found them.

i got the tool a couple of weeks ago now and got tool 1 and 2 fitted easily, the problem as it seems to be with everyone was tool 3. i put it it in the hole of the metal block and couldnt find the sensor, this went on for ages. i eventually found the sensor but the tool was at an awkward angle so that everytime i let go of it, it moved and wasnt coverin the sensor. anyway this went on and on so i pulled it out and bent it in on itself about 1mm, stuck it in and hey presto no more worries. stuck it down and its been there since

After you bent the mk2 tool 3, were you able to close the lid, or does it still remain open?

My Slimtool part 3 finally broke after hours of trying to get it to work, however I was actually able to get the same affect using a #1 size paperclip. I bent and shaped the paperclip in a similar shape to part 3 - put it into place with a little tape and it works great. This means that the most complicated piece to mk2 can be duplicated with things you have laying around your house. If you try this, bend the paperclip so that the largest part of the clip fits just like the wide, flat part of the mk2 part 3 and the long "arm" that goes down inside is on your left if you're looking at the ps2 head on. Also, make sure you have a disk in place to protect your lens and also to see the affect of tripping the sensor. Once you have it in place, use a bit of tape to hold down the flat part of the paper clip in place.

at first no, but i think that was me putting it in a funny way, but after i turned it round (probably the right way round in all honesty) i could close the lid in a fashion. By this i mean that it could close but its slightly tighter than it was before.

@nimiko
How did you manage to break tool 3, when i bent it, it seemed really strong and durable?

Watch it with the MagicKeys 2, especially tool 3. The tool is made of steel, and if you do anything stupid with the tool, get ready to have a fried PlayStation 2(you'll have a short.). Get the TwistTool instead. nimiko, how did you break tool 3? A solid piece of steel can't break! When did it happen, when tool 3 was in the console or out? If it was in, you're console is good for the garbage(meaning that it short-curcuited.).

Ace_2, Robidoo,

In answer to your questions, I broke the tool while trying to bend it as it failed to work out of the box and needed slight reshaping as described by Robidoo. Guess it couldn't handle the strain of bending it. Most metals, even steel, will do this after being bent too much especially when they are very thin such as this one. Actually, I would think that aluminum would be a better choice as it's more flexible and less prone to breakage. BTW, paperclip needs adjusting every once in a while, but works ok.

Some help please...

Does anybody know if the third sensor in the newest PS2 (with the metal piece in the lid hinge) can be pressed with a straw instead of a purchased tool like slimtool?

I was able to get the straw method with a V12 as found here:
http://www.geocities.com/scorcci/tutoriais/pstwo_easy_mode.html

However, I am unfamiliar with the V13 or V14 and am interested in upgrading due to the rumors that V12's laser will surely die. Does anybody know if the straw methods will work with V13 or V14?

I tried to do that on my Version 14 and there's no way the straw can fit in the hinge. Something is blocking the hole there was in the Version 12. The only way to get the straw to go through(maybe a stupid idea) is to try to get the Version 12 lid out of your console(use the guide for the Flip Top Cover to remove and install the lid.) and placing it in the Version 13/14. Remove the Version 13/14 lid and replace it with the Version 12 lid. Soon, I will post a guide to a way to MOD a slim Version 13/14 that I'm working on(trying to press down that annoying switch near the hinge without the use of a paperclip to prevent the possibility of a short-circuit or opening the console, which I will not do until the warranty is finished.).
