My DVDS was working perfectly and then-
after opening a disc or a file, I go to highlight the top (main movie) listing to burn the full disc, I get a broken screen. Part of the DVDS screen (the left side) is normal but the the sub side is broken(part of this, part of that) then the computer locks up with all the ensuing problems that go with that. I'm getting worried about uninstalling and reinstalling so many times. What do I do??

Sure sounds like either a corrupt file, or a virus is on your system. Scan for viruses. Once, back in the 1980's my now x-wife brought home a game that had a read.exe file i stupidly opened. It was a virus that added 1028k to each program ran until your computer ran out of memory. Don't remember the name of that old virus, but all my programs started acting like you described. Like the formating of the program was messed up with line/page breaks where they were not supposed to be.
