No buy a -r burner +r isnt very compatiable with the ps2 except for the new ps2's with strong lasers.

you stand corrected, the best dvd+r media tha works on the ps2 any version, is the tdk type, playing them, backed my games up on tdk dvd+r media and loaded them fine, been playing for hours :)

Haha no I dont stand corrected it is a known fact the -r media is alot more compatiable with the PS2.I have over 125 PS2 DVDR games and have also owned 3 different PS2's since its launch so I know what I'm talking about.

Yes it is compatible with no probs, it is said all over other forms the dvd+r i better to go with, dvd-r is as great and cheaper, but dvd+r is more ompatible with dvd players and the ps2, plays my dvds on the ps2 with no mod chip, and for the games, I don't have a chip installed I prefer the ps2 fliptop with the swap magic disc, I knew too many friends who modded with the chips and wound up killing the ps2, now theirs will not eject or display anything. If you do not wanna go with a mod chip and prefer a non modding method the fliptop is the way to go! Didn't mean to offend you eric. :)

I dont get offended by people who use the swap magic and flip top case infact I tend to ignore them as that method is idiotic and they are usually ignorant.

Hey, i'm going out to buy a DVD burner tomorrow, and I intend to use it to make backups of the games that I already own

I have a V1-3 PS2, and I just want to know:

1. What burner will be the best, at a good price
2. Which DVD Media should i use to work the best?

A V1-3 is definetly gonna have a hard time reading dvd-r media and will definetly not play DVD+R but anyway youve got 3 choices The Sony DRU500 which burns +r/rw and -r/rw but is the most expensive out of the 3. Then theres the Pioneer A05-105 which does -r/rw (which is what ps2 likes) thats what I have and finally the Cendyne DVD burner which is actually a repackaged Pioneer inside the Cendyne case and this can be the cheapest of the 3 if you catch it on sale I suggest you keep your eye on spoofee.com cause you might beable to find one for around $160. As for media try Riteks there the best bang for your buck but you may have to but more expensive media such as Verbatim/Apple cause it is an older PS2.

alba eric is just jealous he has no fliptop, its safer to use it then soildering wires on the ps2, and if the mod chip is a bad one then you are SOL, I will stick with my fliptop, I am using a TDK INDI 4x dvd burner you can get at circuitcity or bestbuy, or 1 thing that was correct yes the sony is the better one, for $50 more and allows you to burn to both -r/rw and +r/rw, plus the +r play in almost every dvd player out, except the apex 1110w, my ps2 plays them perfect, I am using tdk +r's and verbatim +r's my target out here was selling some 3 packs for $3.47 and I bought them out, but everything works well on mine with the fliptop and +r's, I haven't tried +rw I heard rumors that it cannot read the +rw's, but I know it reads the +r's 100% perfect with my ps2, mine is a version 7.

Dvd-R is just more compatibles with ps2 than +R(Not only for ps2 for movies also). Only new ps2 versions can play +r but all ps2 versions can play DVD-R.

I wasent trying to flame your flip top cover stuff sorry if it came out that way but your V7 PS2 has the strongest laser so I dont think you can really speak for other PS2 owners as its the newest version with the strongets laser.

Eric is right. -R is more compatible all around. General rule of thumb. This means All 8 versions of the ps2. +R wont recognize very well on older versions of ps2. I'm not saying they don't work, just you have to buy particular dvd's. -R your safe with almost any brand of dvds. IF your getting ready to buy a DVD writer, just spend the extra 50 dollars and get a drive that supports all formats. Common sense.
