I currently use AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter, MenuShrink, and DVD Shrink. (that's just some background info)
Do I booktype (DVD+R to DVD-ROM) in Decrypter and that's it? I know there's an option in Shrink for Booktyping...what's that all about? Do I have to check that box so Shrink knows that it's a booktyped dvd?
If your using decrypter to burn w/ shrink than yes you set it up in decrypter and that's it. Shrink doesn't have a burn engine so you'd have to set up the booktype w/ the burning app - decrypter, Nero burning rom.
Only DVD+R, DVD+R DL and DVD+RW can change the "book type" or "bitsettings" into DVD-ROM format. Nero (both Express and Burning Rom), DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, K-Probe, Lite-On Book Type Utility (for Lite-On burners) and DVDInfo Pro (I've heard that now it supports book type for certain burners).
I'm a DVD+R person and yes... I prefer DVD+R over DVD-R mainly because I can book type all of them (DVD+R) via Nero Burning Rom and or DVD Decrypter flawlessly into DVD-ROM. And of course, DVD-ROM is the best, perhaps, it's one of the most compatible dvd format at this very moment. With that being said, if your burner can "book type" any of your DVD+R, DVD+R DL or DVD+RW into DVD-ROM, then it will play in any of your standalone dvd players.
*NOTE: make sure your dvd burner is capable of book typing or changing the bitsettings, in order for you to successfully booked type a DVD+R, DVD+R DL or DVD+RW disc into DVD-ROM format.
