problems with xSnes9x

hi, iv been trying to use xsnes9x and been having problems getting it to run. It wont run at all off the cd. When i copy it to the HD i can load up a screen that has a pic of link and samus and a list of my roms.
However, when i try to load up any of the roms it just goes to a blue screen.

can anybody give me some tips?
