I have been trying for months to try and burn movies using dvdshrink, nero, and dvddecrypter with absolutely no success. In general when i try to back up my project it tells me that i have to insert a blank disc...ive tried every type of disc put out all of which come back with the same or similar results...insert a blank disc or insert a writable disc...finally i went on-line with hp just to verify i have a dvd burner...i do but they told me to use some roxio software and again the same result occured..help me before i throw this thing across the room
thank you to anyone who takes pity on me a newbie-newbie!

hmmmm ,you have your target set to nero right when your ready to burn?

try uninstalling and reinstalling the programs(sounds like the programs may not be reading your drives) firmware update may help

or your just doing it wrong follow this guide step by step using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter.

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

and uninstall roxio if your running nero HP gave you bunk info.

let us know how it works out

use good blank media also Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim

DVDDecrypter is still available.
Just used the new DVDFabDecrypter ver. 2.9.6.6 and it has corrected for the new RipGuard.

Both available here:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

Use DVDDecrypter to find new Firmware. go to tools -> Drive -> check for new firmware

In your burn program make sure you have the correct drive selected.
In shrink when you click on backup make sure you select iso burn with dvddecrypter or nero. dvdd still out there. Do a google and find tons of sites. Also try http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html
Some really good guides. Good Luck!

is there a possiblity that there is just something wrong with the dvd burner? is this a common problem? that a dvd/cd combo will read but not write to the drive? I find that it will tell me there is blank media when i try to play the dvd but that the media is not writable or blank when i try to burn...in some programs it says something to the effect that i have to change the composition (?) of what im trying to burn in order for the program to access it...im a total idiot when it comes to these things and im thankful that you folks are so patient in trying to help...

How about posting your DVD/CD combo model number so we can try to figure out what you need.

Model of your DVD burner?

Okay heres the update...my computer is a pavillion zx5180us with a toshiba odd-dvd sd-r6252. HP assures me that there is a dvd burner...i have updated the firmware from the hp site. i have uninstalled roxio, dvd decryper, dvdshrink and reloaded dvdshrink and dvddecryterfab...still having troubles...when i attempt to use dvddecrypterfab the source shows as my c drive file and target shows as my cd drive (dvd burner drive) and the message i get is that "failed to create directory at d:/dvd/(1). when i attempt to burn with Nero (which is nerobackitup)is tells me (when using a memorex DVD-RW that "your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. please insert a disc of the the ocrrect type or modify the settings of your compilation to make it compatable with the current disc." when i use Nero with a DVD+R it tells me that this is not a writable disc. when im using DVD Shrink im using my ALLEGED burner as the target and my folder for temp. file is C/the movie im trying to back up...and get the message that the target and source folders are the same....does this help with diagnosing my issue? I thank everyone for all of their help thus far and will be ever so grateful for any other suggestions....

I've had that show up before "target and source folder are the same" all I did was put a 1 after the target name. Works every time. Do you have a DVD-ROM drive also. Or just 1 drive doing both jobs?

According to Google the drive you have is only for +format, not -format!

Sounds like you have the wrong discs! Memorex are useless as media any how!
