And we have a virus =)

Open control panel > Add/Remove programs and remove if found:

Winupdates ( Sounds like a legal program, but believe me it´s not =) )
Open HijackThis > Do a system scan only
Fix these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/WebsiteAccess/ie/bridge-c11.cab

Make you system and hidden files visible ->

Log looks clean =) Don´t know any reason for your system crashing.
Could be a hardware failure ( memory )? But at least you´re spyware and virus free at the moment =)

good thanks... well it IS a hardware problem... CPU actually. This is a REALLY crappy IBM NetVista thats old and has a socket 370 CPU. IBM made faulty boards and replaced the motherboard under extended "we screwed up big time" warranty... a capacitor broke open near cpu... it messed up the CPU yet they put the same CPU back on the board after giving me a new board... and they won't fix it... and its hard to find Socket 370 CPU's lol... I'm buying a new comp, but was hoping to fix this to use as a secondary comp.

Again, thanks for the help!

Edit> Local Disc (C:) window still opens on startup. Any ideas why this could still be happening?

Kay, I use to have a file called Trustyfiles, it?s a downloading program, but then I deleted it because it didn?t work on my comp, and everytime I try to save my logfile for Hijackthis, a ting pops up ands says that windows cant locate trustyfiles, it seemed to need trustyfiles to save the logfile, and that?s impossible, so after I exited it, another screen pops up with these things on it:

So I was just wondering if its okay to just let you check this because that?s all i?ve got. So if its okay for you, can you still check my logfile things? Thx if you can, and if u cant, its alright, but can u try to fix the trustyfiles problem? Thx!!

First of all that program "Trustyfiles" is adware!!!
Second.... You are running HijackThis from a temp folder which means you can´t backup any lines we fix. So you should move it to a permanent folder such as C:\hjt\ for example. And btw the log isn´t complete. It should start like this > Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 and it should end usually with line 023 ....

But lets still try to do something =)

Remove via add/remove programs located in control panel:

Trustyfiles
New.Net, NewdotNet or something like that

Fix these entries with HjT:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bA0GR91w] C:\PROGRA~1\VTVTQTSP\YCWDHKBN.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zhtlpw] c:\windows\system\zhtlpw.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~1.DLL,NewDotNetStartup -s

Then make your hidden and system files visible ->
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Boot into safe mode ( tap F8 while booting )

Delete these files and folders if found:
c:\windows\system\====>zhtlpw.exe<====
C:\PROGRA~1\==========>VTVTQTSP<====== Folder
C:\PROGRA~1\==========>NEWDOT~1<====== Folder

And please post a complete log after this.

You still have a virus on your system. Let´s try to remove it this way.

Make your hidden and system files visible ->
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

I´m not sure if it could be fixed this easy. Boot in to safe mode ( tap F8 while booting )

Delete this file

C:\WINDOWS\=========>TASKMON.EXE<==========

Boot into normal mode and post a new log.

Btw: I ain´t sure if you can boot into safe mode with F8 in WIN98... Look from your windows manual which is the way to get in safe mode.

Don´t delete it. That was my mistake. You have win 98 and that´s a normal part of it.

So you are still having same problems?Can´t see anything that would relate to a virus anymore on your log. Try cleaning your Windows registry with some program. For example EasyCleaner > http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm#download

I always let EasyCleaner remove all that it finds. You can Undo the changes if they cause problems. The backupped reg entries go here > C:\Program Files\ToniArts\EasyCleaner\Undo\
Just doubleclick the entries you want to backup.
