ilo dvdr05 recorder "damage" message

I just bought this and im using dvd-r disks. Most of my disks stop while recording or while finalizing saying the disk is damaged, does anyone know why this is happening?

The 05 Specifications Call for +R or +RW Disks. My 05 will not even accept a -R or -RW disk. I Have no problem with Many different mfg disks
