I'm getting too many disc errors on the xbox with most backups I have, Im either thinking of buying a dvd cleaner, do it the ghetto way; open the xbox clean the lens with a qtip and some alcho... or just update the whole dvd drive itself..
let me know what you recommend.. thanks

i say buy a PC DVD DRIVE modded for the xbox, just like the one i have, its a samsung, wow gta:SA loads in like 15 seconds, seriously. im sure it would go faster if it was on the harddrive, but i dont have enuf space for that.
jsut go and search on ebay and buy it off there, thats where i got mine, for around 60 bucks.

no more disk errors whats so ever, if the disk is scratched up real bad and the drive cant read it, it still keeps trying to read it no mater what.
i love my drive, it hasent given me any problems. its plug and play, no extra files, nothing.
the only thing that gave me trouble was the installation, cause when you open your box up, and your try to fit it where your old drive was, it wont fit, so your gonna have to shave off some of the plastic that your old drive was sitting in. its not hard to do. youl lsee what i mean when you install it.
you also gotta get some torx skrew drivers to open the xbox up.
GOOD LUCK!

Finally, I received the dvd drive, shaved an area so the drive can fit. so far so good. But now the dvd drive doesn't read my backups that I have ftpin from my xbox to pc. When I insert a backup its says D: Unknown, the original works 100% and WOW! the speed its FAST!
*new drive doesn't read backups only originals
*the speed its a HUGE improvement
I tried with Nero, still reads unknown
I tried with DVD Decrypter, still reads unknown
created the iso with qwiz, still reads unknown
& finally tried with craxtion and sill reads unknown
but true no more disk errors....
peace!

nah, we straight, it's all good yall.
hey, i saw the link above with the 2 dvd drives hooked up at once (original and new), with different methods for trying to run backup games. this seems like a real hassle.
if i buy a samsung dvd drive off ebay, i can just replace the old drive with this one, right? and then close the xbox back up? i don't want to leave the guts open with a second drive sitting on top.
