alright, I have a question.
I have a few dvds currently on shitty Memorex CMCs.
So... If I were to perform a direct copy from the CMCs onto brand new TYs, would the new dvd work, or would the errors copy as well, how would memorex effect this? would the book-type remain the same? etc etc.
I'm planning on using Nero dvd disc-copy because it'll save time, and maybe quality too (?)
thank you sirs.

For disc to disc copy using Nero and ripping cmags: You're more likely to get failed burns. On a 4x speed OTF backup, you're talking about 15 mins or so.You've got to be able to read the disc while you write. Any major error-CRC-and it'll fail.If you can't get past that read error, you won't be able to rip.If you burned those cmags too fast,or at the max backup target-more read errors are likely.

I haven't had a single issue using OTF process. But I don't rip damaged originals or rip backups that were burned on crappy media.

Using DVD Shrink to rerip it may take about 20-25 mins depending on your pc's resources.

Another effective option, takes about 20 mins regardless-5 extra mins if I use a 598 mhz celeron or my 3300+ athlon 64 is dvd decrypter's Mode Iso read and Mode ISO write.DVD Decrypter is a more aggressive ripper, plus you can set it to booktype.

Open dvd decrypter
Mode: ISO read to hard drive, remember where those files go-5 mins!
Mode ISO write/locate that mds folder/burn.

While on that ISO write screen to ,open up the small folder on lower right side of screen. Then open the tab that matches your burner.Plextor/lite-on/benq/ricoh/nec/LG/Nutech are the models listed. Just set for dvd-rom/OK.

If you want to take a few extra mins,it may save you a few coasters and time of re-ripping them again for a third time.

Good Luck!

Saugmon, thank you very much.
yeah I'm going to go with re-ripping to ISO and then burning through Nero (booktyping to dvd-rom as always)

I can see why using the disc-copy is a bad decision. quality is job number one. I can't believe how I was so unaware of my memorex problem. I am excited for this new media life I'm about to embark upon.

peace out homies.

mkezele66:

Dvd decrypter's burn engine has a slight different variation from nero's. On the first few successful re-rips,make sure your stand alone/s are able to play them. From what I have seen, dvd decrypter's burn engine has more issues on a couple of my drives and my Nero backups have no issues on those stand alones. Just a heads up before you rip into all of them.

I have re-ripped a few teon cmags that were in the plus format with no trouble. All my backups have a reduced backup target of 4360 mbs so it keeps the burn about a mm away from the outer edge.In the crappier media, that edge is susceptible to uneven dye.

Good Luck!

I was able to save some of my Memosux CMCs by using DVD Decrypter and setting the crc read error retrys to 2. Depends on how many CRCs you run in to and if they cluster together. It may just give you a minor glitch in playback, or it could screw up at the best part of the show.. I gave up after running in to a disc that was taking over 6 hours to extract because of all the CRC errors. (i left the thing on and went to sleep). Now i never have any problems with my Verbs and Tys. Cost the same or less than the memosux, and are much better media.
