I was wondering how to make a back up of a movie in DVD format I have downloaded onto my hard drive? The movie is MPEG format. I would like to be able to back up so it will play on my DVD player.

Learning more but still leaning on a Newbie status! :)

247dad,
Welcome to the forum. You will need to make those file mpeg-2 DVD Compliant. The program below should do it for you as the price is right-Free. If after conversion it is still too large to fit on a DVD you can use DVDShrink to compress it to DVD and write the files w/ Nero . You could also use Nero's Recode to do the same.

Thanks for the info. Will give it a try tonight after work. I also did some leg work of my own going through different forums here and found some other good guides from several senior members. Some of the guides are for things I did'nt know you could do and have peeked my interest even more. So I am eager to get home and give some of them a try.

Thanks again for the help. Will update on how I made out tomorrow.

Cheers

I feel pretty silly after getting your post and guide to burning. Man that was to easy. Worked like a charm. 100% without an issue. Thanks so much for your help. Those Guides are great. I printed them all. Going to be some good reading. Thanks again.

247dad ,
You are one of the few that actually does research ( reading) prior to posting. That brings a warm feeling to the senior people here. Thanks for doing what you did and if you have any more problems please post back.

I am still really new to this. But has been great being able to back up DVDs. Espically my kids movies. They tend to get pretty beat up over time and at the cost hate having to replace them. So backing them up has been a big cost saver. Not mention a few head aches saved.I am not real PC smart. Learning as I go along. I do wish I had did a little more research before I posted. Espically when you see so many Threads about the same thing. Part of it for me is not knowing all the terms and tech stuff. So I did notice after looking through the Glossary that my post was answered already in a different thread. I just did'nt know what I was asking was answered. I really do try to look through as much as the threads as I can before posting. Thats why I have not posted alot. I do notice alot of people don't even bother to look thou. I can't remember how many times I have looked and seen the first 5 or 6 threads are regarding the same movie and same problem. Kind of crazy that people will ask for help but not look at the thread first. I rarely have ever had to go to page 2 of the threads. 90% of the time the answer you want is on page one. What can you do thou eh? I will keep researching before I post. But if I get stuck I will surely post. Its just great thou how so many people on here are helpful. And the site itself is amazing. Has been great for someone like me. And learning so much. Have had 3 or 4 Senoir Members help me in the past, including you now, and response has been amazing. Thats a credit to the people on here and the site. The site owners should feel blessed. I have used other forums in past and lets just say the people there have been less then perfect. So a big pat on the back for the folks at After Dawn.

Thanks again for all your help.

Cheers from Canada
