ILO DVDR05ZU and firmware download

Hi, I'm so new to the world of recordable dvd players. Over the holidays I purchased the ILO DVDR05ZU stand alone player. Since then I've been on a mad quest to transfer all the children's commercial vhs tapes that I own onto DVD so my kids can watch them on the dvd player.

Last night I encountered 3 that were protected and would not let me transfer them over.

I have read the "ILO Recorder Firmware Update Instructions" from http://ncc2315.com/ilo/

Is there a process for the DVDRO5ZU player? I want to be sure I know exactly what I'm doing before I try changing anything. I'd hate to screw something and my wife my just have my head on a platter if I blow up our new dvd player. :)
