@jxp2307 i dont think it was the native americans that discovered weed.they discovered tabacco.rumor has it that they use to smoke it back in china and egypt in 5000bc at celebrations aswell as making rope out of the plant.

they made rope from hemp which isnt quite the same as bud.
people have been smoking it for a long time though. nearly every holyman and witch doctor in history used to get stoned thats how they came up with magical stories infact they were always so mashed that they actually believed the stories they were coming up with were true

My Dad was a farmer born in 1906 (He'll be 100 in June and I was an "accident"). He tells me that they grew pot for two reasons: 1) to make rope and 2) as an insecticide no, that was wrong; and insecr "repellant"!...they would plant every here and there and break off leaves and twigs from the plants on a regular basis...apparantly, the odor or whatever kept bugs off the crops. (I have no doubt they they did other things with it too though he won't admit to it and just smiles his still mischeivious 100 yr old smile!)

interesting story. so why is it that when i light up a join all bugs in a 15 mile radius seem to swarm towards the smell.

Couldn't tell 'ya guy; my Dad was the farmer, not me. Don't think he's lied though as I'd heard the same from others his age. All I can say is that they didn't burn it...the kept the plants alive and well and would simply strike at the leaves and the odor (or whatever) kept the bugs away. I don't know what else to tell you...remember though, there were no such thing as "insecticides" when he was young...poisoning food and soil was the idea of a later generation. Well, anyway, that's what he said.
