I've just bought Yamaha's F1 (atapi, Firmware version 1.0d) and I can't make it work with the diskt@2 function.

To begin with, I've tried 4 (four) different media: Platinum (700MB, 48x), Nexus (700MB, 48x), Verbatim (DataLifePlus/SuperAZO/order number 43324, 700MB, 48x), TDK (Metallic, 700MB, 40x, item code CD-R80CMEB).

In each case, nero starts burning the bitmap on the disc, and stops 30 seconds later, with this error message: "Error! Burning bitmap to disk failed". That's it. Nothing else. This happens no matter whether I've written data on the disk or not.

There's only one thing I haven't checked yet, because I can't: Yamaha recommends certain VERY specific (data) cd-r types for the diskt@2 function. four Verbatim (43305,43307,43327,43327) and two TDK (CD-R80CMEA, CD-RU74EC). problem is, I can't find them in my home country (Greece). However, both the Verbatim and TDK disks I've tried differ only in the code number's last digit for christ's sake! Even the dyes are the same, at least in Verbatim. Could it be a matter of firmware? Has anyone heard anything about it? Yamaha just ignored my request for help. (A worldwide shipping on-line cdr store recommendation would also be appreciated) Thanx!!!!!

It worked. I upgraded Nero and the damn thing worked. (I did not try upgrading the firmware. I won't do it unless absolutely necessary. $100 is not a small amount to waste :-/)
Of course, it still gave me an error message that the tattoo did not fit on the cd and that on proceedining the tattoo would only be partially written. It did not seem to be so in the tattoo editor. However I edited the tattoo. Then it gave me the same error message. This time I ignored it and the writing concluded as smoothly as possible.
Thank you very, very much. I guess that expecting to have the hardware and the software provided by the manufacturer work out of the box is too much. Go on burning!

The current Yamaha F1 ware is version F.

Whats new:

Allowed CRW-F1 to switch the maximum rotation speed in reading Audio CD between 8700rpm and 4700rpm.
Added support for following CD-R discs for 44x writing.
CMC (48x), Imation (48x), MPO (48x, 52x), Plasmon (52x), Sky Media (52x), Sony (48x)
Added support for CMC Ultra Speed CD-RW disc (24x)

It is fairly risk free to upgrade, just read the instructions first (Switch drive to PIO mode before flashing it). In my opinion the added media support is worth the upgrade.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !
